Ground Nut and Ground Nut Oil

Indian Peanuts are rich in taste and nutrient value. As the largest producer of peanuts in the world, India supplies different varieties of Peanut : Bolds or Runners, Javas or Spanish and Red Natals. Indian peanuts are rich in nutty flavor, taste, crunchy texture and a relatively have longer shelf life. Peanuts seasons in India are almost throughout the year. In fact, India has a larger potential to supply quality groundnuts to the international traders. The concern for quality peanut by the Indian producers are much grown which leads to multiple color sorting and grading as a norm in India. Indian shippers supply edible peanuts conforming to highest standards. The Peanut consists of an 80% nut surrounded by 20% external hull. Peanut oil, peanut snacks, peanut butter Chutney etc., are prepared from peanut kernels.

Varieties of Peanuts

The 2 major varieties of Indian Peanuts are Bold (Runners) and Java (Spanish). The Bold variety has reddish brown skin with oblong shape, while Java variety has pink skin with spherical in shape. Bold type peanuts are the major oilseed (25%) for Groundnut Oil in India.

Benefits of Peanut Consumption

Peanuts are a good source of rich nutrients. Over 30 essential nutrients & phyto-nutrients are dumped in peanut by nature. Fiber, Vitamin E, Niacin, Manganese, Magnesium and Phosphorous are abundantly available in Peanut. They are naturally free from trans-fats, Sodium and also contain about 25% protein. Peanuts are processed in various forms as Peanut butter/Flavoured peanuts/Coated peanuts/ Peanut bars/Chocolate spreads, nut biscuits, crushed nuts used on cakes, buns, icecream and desserts.

Blanched Peanuts

After removal of shell the peanut still have very thin nice skin which covers nut meat. This skin is removed from the nut meat by Blanching process – soak the nuts in very hot water for some minute and then cool them immediately to rub off the skin.

Blanched nuts are used mostly for cooking and baking. For making snacks unblanched peanuts are incomparable choice. The skin itself adds just a touch on flavor with full of nutrients.

Groundnut Oil

Groundnut oil, also known as Peanut oil is a vegetable oil extracted from peanuts. This oil usually has a mild flavor if made from raw peanut. If extracted from roasted peanuts, has stronger peanut flavor and aroma. It is often Indian, Asian, American, Chinese and African cuisine for cooking in regular use.

Groundnut oil is an important energy source in our diet. Well matured groundnuts expel good quality oil. It contains heart friendly MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acids) that lowers the bad cholesterol level without lowering good cholesterol. Further it is also low in saturated fats and high in unsaturated fats. The high smoking point of this oil holds on its nutritional content intact at higher temperatures.
